Seattle, Washington is situated in the far north-western corner of the United States. It is roughly 100 miles south of the Canadian boundary, just about 3000 miles west of New York City and over 1000 miles north of Los Angeles, California. The city is located on a series of low hills overlooking the deep-water port of Puget Sound about 75 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean. It is nearly bounded by water with Puget Sound on the west, Lake Washington a few miles to the east and Lake Union linking them across the north. Seattle is a predominantly beautiful metropolis; it has a splendid setting, with a contemporary skyline of glass skyscrapers, a hospitable charisma, and plenty of amusing coffeehouses, good restaurants, and charming clubs.
