Mandalay Palace, Myanmar - Mandalay Palace- A Golden City

Scenic, Palace, Monuments, Art Gallery

Mandalay Palace is well-known by many as the golden city within a city. This palace was the centre of grandeur for Myanmar King Mindon and was a truly splendid palace complex. However it was dreadfully destroyed by bombing during the World War Two. An exact facsimile of the old palace is now being built inside the walls. A finely constructed palace walls, bordered by a moat is certainly a delight for artists, architects, painters and photographers. Mandalay Palace was the first bastion to be built in Mandalay, by King Mindon when he shifted his capital from Amarapura in 1861, to fulfil an old prophecy. The site was selected with the auspicious omen and astronomical calculations.
