Art Gallery - Showcase for plethora of talent

Art is a gift of god to a very few blessed ones on the earth. It cannot be learnt or taught but it has to come from within and one has to be passionate about it. A place which displays such beautiful pieces of art is called an Art Gallery.

Art Galleries often set up a certain theme or trend in art for group of associated artists to display their art. Art Galleries sometimes even choose to represent artists exclusively, giving them the opportunity to show regularly. Hence the artists have to be in touch with the Art Gallery authorities often and cater to their requirements and tastes constantly.

The Paintings displayed in an art gallery can be other forms of paper work too. Drawings with mediums like pastels, watercolors, prints, photographs, or collages are a few of them. These art works are displayed on temporary basis as the preservation of these kinds of art pieces is very difficult in an Art Gallery. Art forms like sculpture, decorative arts, furniture both contemporary and antique, and textiles are also displayed in the art galleries. Activities like performance arts, music concerts, poetry reading and visual arts are also hosted in the art galleries. In short any form of Art is showcased in an Art Gallery.

Art galleries can be permanent or a temporary set up. Art Galleries which are permanent are usually a set of rooms which are interconnected. The most important factor in such art galleries is light. Hence the architects provide a number of artificial lights to keep the space well lit and also provide a number of skylights or roof lanterns. The architects also keep the space open as much as possible and keep the interiors of the Art Gallery very sober and minimal so that the art displayed gets maximum attention.

Most of the Art Galleries display magnificent paintings on a large scale. The artists displays their art work for a non profit purpose or for commercial purpose where in the paintings are sold for a price. There are two types of art gallery namely Contemporary art gallery and Vanity galleries. Contemporary art galleries are privately owned for-profit commercial galleries. These galleries are often found clustered together in large urban centers. Some smaller cities are also a home to at least one gallery, but they may also be found in towns or villages, and remote areas where artists assemble to display their art. Contemporary art galleries are usually open to the general public without any fees; however, some are semi-private. They usually profit by taking a portion of art sales. Some galleries charge the artists a flat rate per day which is not really appreciated in international art markets. Vanity galleries are an art gallery that charges fees from artists in order to show their work.

Art galleries are run as a business but an experience in an art gallery is beyond words. The silence, the peace and the talent displayed makes one accept that ‘Art’ is nothing but Gods gift to a very few.
