The gilded Shwezigon pagoda is one of the Myanmar oldest and the most significant pagoda in Bagan. Myanmar King Anawrahta who was the founder of the first Baganrule built the pagoda in 1057 AD as a centre of prayer and reflection. This Shwezigon is the proto form for all later Myanmar stupas.The pagoda is footing between the village of Wetkyi-in and Nyaung U. It is a gorgeous pagoda and was commenced by King Anawrahta but not completed until the sovereignty of King Kyanzittha (1084-1113). King Kyanzittha was thought to have constructed his palace nearby.
