Vijaynagar Fort, Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu - A historical attraction
Located near the Brahadeeswara Temple, the Vijaynagar Fort is a popular historical attraction to be seen in Thanjavur. It was built by Nayak ruler Vijay Raghav in 1550 AD and later on completed by the Maratha rulers. This massive fort encloses many beautiful buildings such as the Tanjore Palace, Sangeetha Mahal, a library and an art gallery housing wonderful collection of ancient sculptures and paintings. However, the fort is in ruined condition nowadays but a part of it is opened for the visitors.
