Famous for the varied flora (like bamboo, champa, ferns, katus, kimbu, oak, orchids, rhododendrons and fauna like binturong or bearcat, civet cat, Himalayan black bear, red panda, Fambong La Wildlife Sanctuary is situated at a distance of 20 km away from Gangtok and is a wonderful place to find many species of wild animals. This sanctuary attracts many travellers who love nature and are fascinated about the wildlife. At the south eastern boundary of the sanctuary is the famous Rumtek Monastery. So while you are in Gangtok this is the best place to witness the wildlife closely.
