Akshaya Vat is nothing but a holy Banyan tree placed inside the Allahabad Fort at Patalpuri Temple. Akshaya Vat is very religious tree and therefore, one could see its special mention in past history of Allahabad and even, Chinese traveler Hieun Tsang also mentioned about this tree in his documentary on travel to Allahabad. According to one legend, sage Markandeya provoked Lord Narayana to present some sign of divine power in front of him and as a result, Lord Narayana brought flood everywhere. The place became so significant as it was the only tree that could be seen over the flooded water! But, it is not too easy to get to this pious tree as it is compulsory to take prior permission from Ordinance Depot to visit this awesome place.
