Galle "Gaul", and in Sinhalese is a settlement positioned on the south western tip of Sri Lanka, 119 km from Colombo. Galle was recognized as Gimhathiththa before the influx of the Portuguese in the 16th century and was the major harbor on the isle. In Wakwella Bridge near this place is the longest overpass in Sri Lanka. This seaside city is well-known for its well-preserved 17th century Dutch fortress, lace production and ebony carvings. The trip to Galle is alongside the Palm bordered shore transitory Ambalangoda, well-known for its mask makers and Hikkaduwa with its extremely gorgeous coral gardens and striking tropical fish. Seafood is a specialty all the way. Another attractive place to stopover is a Turtle Hatchery.
