Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary is project tiger reserve and a wildlife sanctuary of 495 km². it is located around 38 km northwest from Chikmagalur. Being the watershed of Tungabhadra River, it is the huge reservoir and is the main source of water supply to several districts of south Karnataka. Bhadra sanctuary forests are rich in flora and fauna and are famous for bamboos and birds species. Most of the area consists of dense forests. It was earlier known as Jagara Valley Wildlife Sanctuary. It is a popular place for day outings and picnic.
