Vavar Shrine is also an important temple in Sabariamala which is dedicated to a Muslim saint called as Vavaru Swamy. This shrine is located next to the main temple of Lord Ayyappa and reflects the religious harmony of two different faiths at one point. It is said that Vararu Swamy was a pirate and he fought a battle with Lord Ayyappa. After defeating, he became a great follower of the lord and served him as his disciple. The deity of Vavaru Swamy is placed in the shrine in the form of a carved stone slab with a sword and the devotees offer black pepper and perform rituals to the god.
