Spituk Monastery, Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir - A 3-chapel monastery of 11th century
Dated back to the 11th century, Spituk Monastery is a 3-chapel monastery which was founded by Od-de who was the elder brother of Lha Lama Changchub Od. Along with the main statue of Lord Buddha, there is also an image of Amitayus. The gompa has 5 thankas and also houses a fine collection of ancient masks, coins, arms, antiques and a splendid idol of Mahakaal. The place holds a good number of visitors and locals during the Gustor Festival which is held annually at the monastery.
