33 km away from Panaji is this large Shantadurga Temple dedicated to the lord who mediates between Vishnu and Shiva i.e. Shantadurga. The original temple was in Salsette which in 1564 was destroyed by the Portuguese and later the Devi was shifted to Kavalem. The original temple of Shree Shantadurga is known as Deoolbhata. On the slope of the foothills of a mountain chain is this temple complex. Surrounded by lush vegetation, the temple creates a majestic and interesting environ that a travelers should not forget to visit once. The temple is visited by thousand devotees from Goa and other cities round the year.
