Popularly known as the Jacaranda City for all the purple blossom-bedecked trees, which don on all its main roads, Pretoria is a gorgeous, hushed city. Pretoria is one of three capitals of South Africa with a population that exceeds a million people. Attractions in and around the city includes the Transvaal Museum that has natural history displays and is the home of Mrs Ples, the australopithecine fossil found at Sterkfontein in the Cradle of Humankind. Also worth visiting around Pretoria are the Cultural History Museum and Smuts Museum in Irene. This city is also rich in cultural with most African ethnic groups residing here and all eleven South African languages spoken by the inhabitants.
