Mathura is not only renowned for religious places but is also famous for historical monuments. The best example of such historical site is Government Museum, situated in the proximity to the Dampier Park. Sir F.S.Growse was the main founder of this museum in the year 1874. Lots of artifacts displayed in this museum attract the tourists who visit this museum once. The collection in this museum consists of different rare artifacts and belongings dating back to ancient times. The edifice of the museum is octagonal and is perfectly made up of red sandstone. In this museum, one can see the wonderful display of coins made up of different metals, pottery, clay items, etc.
