Wat Traimit Golden Buddha Temple, Thailand - Scenic Beauty

Monastery, Scenic, Temple

The outstanding temple of Wat Traimit houses in the world's biggest concrete gold Buddha image. Formed of about 83% pure gold and weighing in at five and a half tons, the 15-foot giant seated image was shed way back in the 13thcentury and is a brilliant exemplar of the affable Sukhothai manner that is still very much in errand to this day. Sometime ago, it was enclosed in plaster and varnish, presumably in an effort to conceal the precious idol from burglars or plunderers. The true character of the Golden Buddha wasn't exposed until it was shifted to its present position at Wat Traimit in 1955. When the idol was being elevated into its new abode, the chains broke, dropping the figurine. Some of the plaster was flaked off, illuminating the gold beneath.
