Museums talks about the history of the place. So to know about the city you have to go and visit the museum. The Shimla State Museum projects the cultural wealth of the state. The museum was opened in 1974 and has around 9000 objects. In the museum, you can come across artifacts related to art, archaeology and anthropology of the Himachal Pradesh State. The museum was started with only four galleries but later on more galleries were added to it. Some of its galleries are Pre-Historic, Wood-Carving, Archaeology, Wall Painting and Numismatic. Beside these galleries, there is an exhibition hall where other activities of the museum take place.
