Gerona is enclosed by the Pyrenees on the north and by the Mediterranean in the south and east. The region is exemplifies by a craggy geography, and includes forests of pine, oak and chestnut. It is located at the meeting place of the Ter and the Onyar rivers. Gerona is scattered with diverse places of interest. The antique part of the conurbation stands on the steep mount of the Capuchins while the contemporary section stands in the plains and stretches away from the river. There are some wonderful monuments and breathtaking pieces of architectural excellence. There are copious mosques which are worth a visit.
