This gorgeous gorge encapsulates a rich culture, Scenic beauty and hundreds of myths and legends. People often describe it as “Mine Switzerland”. The drive from Trongsa to Jakar may only take about two hours but the change in vista is spectacular. Comprising of four smaller valleys, the profoundly religious region of Bumthang is masked in religious fable. The hills around Jakar are filled with monasteries devoted to Padmasambhava who is said to have cured an ailing ruler and introduced Buddhism to the vale Bumthang is also home to one of the great Buddhist teachers, Pemalingpa, to whose descendants the present monarch traces its origins.
