The historical evidences suggest that the Chogyal dynasty ruled here in the year 1641 and its first consecration was laid by the three Lama scholars. The NorbugangChorten near Gangtok is a proof of this ceremony. Today also you can see the footprints of the Head Dalai Lama at this place. In 1697, the Singhore Bridge Monastery was constructed which is one of the oldest monasteries in Sikkim.
