Notre Dame Cathedral, with the full name Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris, "Our Lady of Paris", is a gorgeous cathedral on the the Île de la Cité in Paris. Begun in 1163 and mostly finished by 1250, Notre Dame is an imperative paradigm of French Gothic architecture, statuette and tainted glass. The Notre Dame is the most admired monument in Paris and in all of France, pounding even the Eiffel Tower with 13 million visitors each year. But the renowned cathedral is also a vigorous Catholic church, a place of pilgrimage, and the focal point for Catholicism in France - spiritual events of national consequence still take place here.
