Majuli is the major centre of neo- Vaishavinism in Assam and is known for its Satra. The Kamalabari Satra is the most significant of Majuli which was established by Badala Ata, a disciple of Madhvadeva in 1595. The word ‘Kamaka’ means orange and ‘bari’ means Assamese. It is a major cultural hub of Majuli’s art and literature for centuries. The famous Sattriya dance has also got its popularity from Kamalabari and later became the classical form of dance of the state. Moreover, this Satra is also known for creating splendid mythological sculptures. It is indeed a must visit attraction in Majuli but do not visit it during monsoon.
