Situated in the heart of the city, India gate was built in the year 1931. Inspired by the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, India Gate was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens. It is one of the prominent landmarks of the city and is also known as All India War Memorial. India gate was actually built to commemorate the death of 90,000 soldiers of the Indian Army who lost their lives while fighting for the Indian Empire in World War I and the Third Anglo-Afghan War. Composed of red and pale sandstone and granite and is the site dedicated to the Indian Army.
