The creation of Bishop Michael Browne, the Cathedral of Our Lady Assumed into Heaven and St. Nicholas was projected to be ‘solid, dignified and worthy of Galway'. The interior packed with cut-stone and wood carvings along with wall paintings, mosaics and rose windows is a fine exemplar of Irish workmanship.
