Built in 1730 AD by Maharaja Surajmal, the Deeg Fort is positioned on a raised ground with a wide shallow moat surrounding it. With a boundary wall of 8 km in length, this is one of the strongest forts in the state. The long outer wall of the fort is pierced by 10 massive gateways and 72 bastions and the gateway to the fort is protected with anti-elephant strikes. It houses 12 massive towers with the Lakha Burj as the largest one. The Surajmal Haveli is also a prominent attraction in the fort which is built in a typical bangaldar style.
