Dwarka, synonymous with Lord Krishna, is an ethnic city located at the tip of Saurashtra peninsula of the Arabian Sea. Earlier known as the Golden City, Dwarka in Gujarat is a sacred city and a popular devout centre blessed with spiritual enlightment and deep salvation. As per the mythological legends, Dwarka is the sacred place where Lord Krishna has established his Yadav kingdom thousands of years back. Due to its remarkable mythological significance, it has been ranked as one of the seven most ancient cities or sapt-puri in India and is also a ‘chardham site where a number of devotees gather to seek the blessings of Lord Krishna.

 

Dotted with a multitude of splendid temples and lovely shrines, the city of Dwarka has gained high accolades as an enchanting religious destination where people across the country come to attain salvation. A bevy of ancient temples showcasing the wonderful architectural splendor of bygone era are the prime attractions in the town. A majority of these shrines is associated with the life of Lord Krishna and a visit to these places offers an invigorating experience to the devotees. Apart from a religious ambience, the holy city of Dwarka is also dotted with some of the beautiful beaches. These pristine sea shores with glittering waters and fabulous climate add to the charm of the city and tempt the tourists to come to this spiritual destination of Gujarat again and again.

 

The most prominent attraction in Dwarka is the magnificently built ancient Dwarkadhish Temple that houses an idol of Lord Krishna and is one of the most famous pilgrimage sites in the country. Besides, the city is dotted with several other beautiful temples that beckon the tourists with its interesting heritage and impressive architecture. A visit to Dwarka is incomplete without visiting the Beyt Dwarka which is famous for its ancient temple located on the island off the coast. It houses various images of Lord Krishna with his 56 queens. It is said the after the death of Lord Krishna, the Yadav dynasty rooted down and the entire kingdom merged in the sea with a destructive flood. However, some of the excavations found at the sea clarify the truth behind these myths and the existence of this ancient city of Dwarka.
