Badrinath, renowned as one of the oldest religious place is located at the Chamoli district in the state of Uttaranchal in India. This holy shrine is famed as Badrinath Dham and is one of the most important of all the four dhams or pilgrims of India. Enveloped by the two mountain ranges of Nar and Narayan, Badrinath is majestically nestled amidst the backdrop of fascinating Neelkanth peak at an altitude of 3133 meters above sea level. Alsoknown as the Vishal Badri, this highly revered dham of Badrinath lies on the right bank of holy river Alaknanda and is the largest of the five Badris.
The sacred pilgrim site of Badrinath is renowned for its Badrinath temple housing Lord Badrinarayan who is believed to be an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The temple is originally said to be discovered by Adi Shankaracharya who visited the place in the 9th century and founded a Saligram idol of Badrinarayan in River Alaknanda. He installed it near the Tapt Kund and later it was shifted to the present temple by the Garwhal king.
Apart from various beautiful ancient shrines and pilgrimage, Badrinath also proffers the visitors with the awe-inspiring beauty and heart- throbbed landscapes of the entire Garhwal region. Lying in the backdrop of snow clad mountains and sparkling Alaknanda River, Badrinath is a fantastic place booked with scenic landscapes, undulating peaks, gushing waterfalls, silvery rivers, lush green grasslands and pleasant climate that will surely spell bound the visitors. Moreover, the sanctity and holiness of the place add to the loveliness of the Badrinath Dham and beckons a huge number of visitors as well as pilgrims to come here after crossing through an ardent voyage across the mighty hill ranges. Perching at a high altitude, Badrinath also offers excellent trekking and mountaineering activities for the adventure lovers. Overall, Badrinath Dham is a wonderful location as well as holy spot to experience the endless vistas of nature in its full bloom.
