Gulmarg literally means ‘meadow of flowers’ is an enchanting hill station lying in the district of Barumala in the state of Jammu and Kashmir in India. Nestled at an altitude of about 2730 meters, Gulmarg is an awe-inspiring holiday destination for the nature lovers lapped in the stunning peaks of mighty Himalayas. The lush green backdrop, blooming valleys, pristine lakes, eye-catching landscapes and pleasant climate make this beautiful hill resort a popular holiday escape for the tourists all across the world.


Originally referred as ‘Gaurimarg’ by the shepherds, the present name of the place was given by Sultan Yusuf Shah in the 16th century who was amazed by the sight of the grassy slopes embedded with wild blossoms. Moreover, it was also a favorite resort for the kings including Mughal Emperor Jehangir and also was a summer retreat for the British officers.


Apart from heart-throbbing landscapes and unexceptional scenic vistas, Gulmarg is also renowned for its highest green golf course in the world which is places at an altitude of 2650 meters. It is one of the best ski resorts in the country and beckons a huge number of adventure seekers especially during winters to enjoy multitude of winter sport activities such as ice-skating, skiing, tobo-ganning, paragliding and ski-bobbing etc. Moreover it is also the first place that offers heli-skiing in Asia where a helicopter takes the person to the desired peak from where he can choose his own descent route. In addition, the region also offers sledges and snow cycles and trekking experience during winters for the adventure enthusiasts.
