Nalanda, an ancient hot seat of knowledge and learning is located in the state of Bihar in India. Literally “Nalan” means “Lotus” and “Da” means “to give”; hence Nalanda refers to ‘Voracious in Giving’. Established in the 5^th century, Nalanda has always been a glorious land endowed with rich culture and tradition. Situated around 88 km from Patna, it is renowned all over the world as one of the greatest and oldest universities and was established and flourished under many Hindu Gupta Rulers and some Buddhist Emperors.

Nalanda is much famed for its ancient Nalanda University which was an important learning centre for a huge number of students and scholars for learning and gaining knowledge. Nalanda has gained accolades worldwide for its rich culture and tradition. The remnants of this great institution of Nalanda still beckon the visitors from all across the globe and make them feel the legacy of the bygone era. Apart from the ruins of ancient monuments, the place also offers several interesting attractions to be witnessed by the visitors.

There are various ancient structures such as stupas, monasteries and temples etc that should be must visited while planning a tour to this historical city of Nalanda. The Sun Temple is a major attraction in the city that houses a 5 feet tall statue of Goddess Parvati. Other famous attractions are Nalanda Museum, Nav Nalanda Vihar, Stupa of Sariputra etc. Visiting this place is like going back to the ancient times.
