Odense Peace Church, Denmark - Odense Peace Church

Church

Outside Odense on the north on Skibhusvej stands the Peace Church (Fredenskirke), constructed 1916-20 to plans by the engineer Jensen Klint; the design was initially intended for the Church of St Paul in Århus but this was never constructed. The Peace Church, an alteration of Gothic brick churches and a beginning study for Jensen Klint's renowned Grundtvig Church in Copenhagen, are in yellow brick with a red-tiled crown and have five coves. Unusually, the church choir is at the west end and the doorway at the east end. The frontage of the loom is alienated into two gables ("tveje") with high perpendicular screens arranged like organ-pipes.
