Madikeri fort, Coorg, Karnataka - Massive and gigantic edifice
Mercara Fort, also popularly known as Madikeri Fort, is one of the most popular attractions in Coorg of Karnataka. Being the headquarters of Coorg, Mercara town is embedded with lots of places to visit and Mercara Fort is one of them. Maduraja,Prince of Haleri Dynasty, constructed this gigantic fort by making use of mud in 1681 and also, a magnificent palace named Mercara Palace within the fort only. It is also must-see site in Coorg and was renovated by Lingarajendra Wodeyar II in 1814.The fort had undergone through the reign of many rulers, like Tipu Sultan, Doddaveer Rajendra and then finally, came into the hands of British in 1834.
