Kamakhya Temple, Dispur, Assam - One of the Shaktipeeths in India
Considered as one of the Shakti Peethams in India, the Kamakhya Temple is one of the most revered religious destinations in the state. Nestled on the top of the Neelachal Hill, it is the highest point in the city of Dispur. The temple is highly regarded by the followers of the Shakti sect and is devoted to the legendary mother Goddess who killed the demon Narakasur. The temple is also associated with the mythological tales of DakshaYagna and Lord Shiva and a number of devotees throng here during the time of the Ambubachi Festival.
