Wellingdon Island is not an outcome of natural power but it is a man-made island came into being by the settling down of the sand got from the digging of the Kochi Port to make it deep. Lord Willingdon was the man who gave this amazing idea and so, island was named after him. This island holds the most significant place in the entire Cochin because almost all the important port offices, railway terminals and also custom offices are located here. Therefore, this island is not only the place for tourists but it also serves as main business center of Cochin.
