Situated in the heart of the town of Viralimalai, ViralimalaiMurugan beautiful temple is a must visit religious attraction in the city. The presiding deity enshrined in this temple is Lord Murugan and is shown seated on the back of a peacock. The temple is believed to have been built during 15th century and can be reached by climbing 207 stairs. There are mandapams on the way to the temple which are used as rest rooms for the tourists. Among several rituals performed in the temple, there is a ritual of offering a cigar to Lord Dandayudhapani which is made of sandal paste.The temple is surrounded by orchards and many Kura trees. The tourist can also see the beautiful peacock dancing around the temple.The statues of Narad Muni and Rishi Kashyapa can be seen inside the temple along with several sculptures of Arumugan and Arunagirinathar carved tastefully on its pillars.
