The ancient Vardaraja temple attracts devotees throughout the year because of it being one of the 108 'divyadesams'- the holy abodes of Lord Vishnu.There is a big outer wall that surrounds this fine temple. It also has an impressive 1000 pillared hall inside called as the Kalyanamandapam.The idol of Lord Varadharaja Swamy is kept in the upper prakaram. The temple is a masterpiece of art and presents an exquisite architectural style of the Cholas and Vijaynagar dynasties.There are two lizards one silver plated and the other gold platedembedded on the ceiling of the corridor enclosing the Sanctum.
