Built out of red sandstone, the tomb was completed in 1611 AD in the memory of Akbar's Christian wife, Mariyam.  Mariyam's Tomb is a unique tomb in itself. It is one of the most important tourist attractions in the city. The city was founded by Sikander in 1506 and consists of three UNESCO world heritage sites and Mariyam’s tomb is one of such attractions.
