Located next to Mahalaxmi railway station, this is the gigantic open-air laundry that is a unique attraction of the Mumbai city. It offers a remarkable glimpse into the city’s life where dirty laundry is brought from all over the city for washing. A large number of washermen (dhobis in Hindi) hand-wash these clothes with great care. These washermen have been doing this profession for generations and a number of families are earning their livelihood through this profession. There are a large number of concrete troughs arranged in numerous rows for washing clothes. It’s fascinating to see so many people washing clothes at a single place.
