The temple of Kedarnath is dated back to the period of Mahabharata and is closely associated with the mighty Pandavas. In order to avoid the Pandavas Lord Shiva took the form of a bull and have hidden at Kedarnath. When Lord Shiva whowas in the form of the bull was noticed by Pandavas the lord went into the earth leaving the hump on the surface. Kedarnath is named after the King Kedar who occupies a place in mythology and who ruled the present day Kedarnath in Satyug period. He had a beautiful daughter named Vrinda who was a human incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi. Vrinda is supposed to live a life of 60000years praying to the Lord all through her life Vrindavan is named in her honor.
