Matheran doesn’t have a railway station of its own and the nearest railhead is at Mumbai from the metro city of Mumbai, there are many trains like Deccan Express those plies from the city to Matheran via Neral. Another major railway station near to the hill town is Pune and the Sahyadri express running from Mumbai to Pune stops at Neral. For reaching Matheran from Neral, one can catch the mini train that runs across the town and taxi service is also available from Neral.
Reach Matheran by Road
Matheran is well connected to the major cities of Mumbai and Pune through good network of roads. Regular private and roadways buses ply between Mumbai and Matheran and also from Pune to Matheran. While travelling via private car or taxi, the tourists have to park their vehicles at Dasturi Naka as the town is banned for the entrance of the automobiles and from this point, Matheran is just 11 km away.
