The Ekambareshwar Temple is one of the largest temples in Kanchipuram with numerous shrines, mandapams, gopurams and tanks. This temple covers an area of 20 acres and was built by Pallavas and was altered by the Cholasand the Rayas. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the temple is known for its 1000 lingas which are carved out of a single stone. The temple has an intricately carved 1000-pillared hall, 5 corridors, massive outer stonewall and a 57 m high Gopuram. There is also a mongo tree located in the courtyard which is around 3500 years old, There are four separate limbs found on the tree that represent the Four Vedas- Rig, Yajur, Sama and Atharvana. One can tastes four different kind of mangoes from the four separate limbs.
