Copenhagen Grundtvig Church, Denmark - Museum, Church

Church, Museum

Halfway between Nørrebro and the Zoological Museum, Tagensvej leads northwest from Jagtvej to the Copenhagen region of Bispebjerg. Here stands Grundtvig Church (Grundtvigs Kirke), constructed between 1921 and 1940 by Peter Wilhelm Jensen Klint and named after the founder of the Adult Education campaign. Inspired by the style of the typical country churches of Denmark, the architect planned a tall and colossal church edifice of yellow brick and clinker. As the church houses one of the biggest organs in Scandinavia concerts are often held here. Below the church choir and part of the nave lies a huge burial chamber.
