City Palace was built between 1729 and 1732, initially by Sawai Jai Singh II. He was the one who planned and built the outer wall and later it was built by other successive rulers which carried on till 20th century. The City Palace is a palace complex which includes the Chandra Mahal and Mubarak Mahal palaces. A large part of Chandra Mahal is used by the royal family as a residence whereas one part of it houses a museum. Mubarak Mahal is a museum built with a fusion of the Islamic, Rajput and European architectural styles in the late 19th century.
