Ashoka Pillar plays significant role in alluring lots of tourists from all over the world. It stands still within the premises of Allahabad Fort. Dating back to 232 B.C., the pillar was constructed by Akbar by making use of red sandstone and is 10.6 m high. The main attraction of this pillar is having inscriptions of Samudragupta, Jahangir and also of Ashoka. Ashoka inscriptions were mentioned in Brahmi on this pillar and Samudragupta inscriptions were in Gupta Script. The pillar can’t be visited by walking casually within the fort as it requires special permission from the Ordinance Depot.
