One of the most important pilgrimage destination and a must visit attraction in Vijayawada is Amravati. It is located on the holy banks of River Krishna and is renowned as a famous Buddhist place in the country. It houses the popular Amareswara Temple which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Moreover, one of the prime attractions of this place is Mahachaitya Stupa which was said to be built in the ruling period of great King Ashoka. This stupa is dated back to 2000 years and has a marble surface dome and carved pillars having the beautiful carvings showcasing the life of Buddha.
